Re: Return of the SPACK - Tank Log

Been a light couple of months, currently rearranging the plants to try and have the water clover as a lawn because I'm not enjoying the maintenance of the current lawn. As a result the cherry shrimp are being more secretive and I see them far less. All the fish are pretty happy. Nerite snails are lo...

Re: Beneficial bacteria

As I said, I know it's a controversial take. Back in my first forray into fishkeeping I had a handful of small tanks I did experiments in and one of the tests I did was washing the internal filter media (sponge and small ceramic cylinders) with tap vs tank water. It got to the point of adding campin...

Lemon Tetra Sex Ratio

I've had my 15 lemon Tetras for about 10 months and now they're showing clear sexual dimorphism I realise I have 12 males and 3 females. Two of the males are just starting to get their yellow colour in the body and males often display at one another and claim prime spots to display in the tank. I've...

Re: Beneficial bacteria

I'm aware I'm resurrecting an old thread with a controversial take but... you can clean bio media in tapwater. There's a very short contact period, a low quantity of chlorine or chloramine. The amount of Bacteria you kill with it is trivial compared to the overall population. Prolonged Soaking in ta...

Re: Unexplained Blue Water (Not The Shopping Centre)

Tetraplus tap water conditioner turns water blue if you overdose it (The product itself is blue). I don't know if Aquacare does the same but Is it possible you're overdosing on water conditioner?

Re: What to do?

As the leaves at the top grow they shade the lower leaves which will then be perfect locations for algae. Depending on the rates of growth and flow in your tank you can either clean the leaves or trim and replant the tops and compost the middles.

Re: Canister Filter advice.

An actual flow rate of 2320 is going to be hard to acheive. Fluval FX6 is the only filter that springs to mind. That has a nominal flow rate of 3,500l/h and should hit 2,300 in actual use.

Welcome to the forum. I would also suspect swim bladder disorder if it cannot ascend at all. Here is about Goldfish's guide to the disorder

Re: Just started

We were given the tank and it had been running already. The sponges inn the filter are new. Thanks for the advice about distances for fish to swim. Where is the source for this info? Hi Kiwara, if the sponges are new, your tank is also likely lacking some of the bacteria it needs to run healthily. ...
