Whilst a fish in cycle is (as I have learnt since joining AFUK) is an old fashioned method which was used successfully for many years there are better ways of doing it (as I said tank#1 aka Fireplace was Fish In and took 55 Days before I could start building up stock week by week. As you're fishless cycling you can crank the temp up too 30c as the munchers like it warm, just remember to crank it down before adding fish!!

Is your tank planted?

If so then you should be aiming for 2ppm rather than 4ppm

my first tank that I started end of august last year I was in the same boat as yourself, didn't know about fishless cycling and followed the advice of the LFS on cycling with fish in (4 Platys in an 80Litre) . All in all it took around 55 days to get the tank fully cycled (including many many water ...

I was thinking of nitrates.

if you have
>0 Nitrates in yuor tap water then a 50% water change won't cut the levels in half :)

wouldnt a 50% chnage with 8PPM at 100% actually bring it back to 6PPM overall ?
