Re: The cycle.... disclaimer, I m not looking for shortcuts more knowledge.

In theory it’s fine, but the amount of plant life per fish is quite large, and they also need to be actively growing. The filter is a much safer option, and allows for a lot more fish. The bacterial population converts far more ammonia more quickly, because the average tank is hugely overstocked, c...

Re: NT Labs test Kit?

What container is Dr Tim's Ammonia in and has it been properly sealed? Ammonia is volatile and will offgas through certain plastics and out of liquid that isn't sealed. One reason I like the medical grade ammonia I get, comes in a glass bottle :) That and its 25% by volume. The Dr Timms when I used...

Re: Jons Tank 3

patience is the keyword :) Get into a routine. Mine was every morning at around 08:00 1) Check parameters 2) If ammonia 0 and nitrites still present add ammonia to bring back to 2ppm (don't worry about the nitrate levels, that can be sorted later) . NB I also added stability for the first 7 days of ...

Re: Jons Tank 3

Yes, add more Dr.Tim's ammonia when the reading is zero. Test every 24 hours. I believe @mikeyw64 used Dr. Tim's and has a chart on his log. ;) I did and then I switched to medical grade ammonia as its cheaper :) For dosing check the bottle as I cant remember if it was 3 drops per US gallon(3.8 lit...
