Re: Changing to sand substrate?

Fr499y beat me to it.

Put your fish in a container with as much water as you can, you'll be getting rid of all the water from the tank pretty much.

Re: Moss and Wood

Very much depends on the moss and the wood. I may be being blind but it looks to me like the moss is on stone rather than wood in the picture.

Re: 125l Tank stocking

I'd say you are lightly overstocked (by which I mean too much for a beginner but fine for an aquarist who is experienced and active in their maintenance). The plants may welll reduce the maintenance burden as well. Snails and shrimp for algae and plant waste eating would work but I wouldn't add a br...

Re: Just started

Those red dots look like snail eggs to me. I wonder if the colour comes from the decoration they're on. If the big snail is dead you should remove it It will foul the water very quickly. If you're not sure whether or not it's dead pop it in a glass dish with a little tank water and watch it for 15 m...

Re: Knowlegeable suppliers

Another endorsement for the API master test kit. Although once the ammonia runs out I replace it with the NT Labs equivalent because I find it easier to see the colour at low ammonia levels.

Re: Smart Thermostat with Energy Monitoring

Personally I would still have the heater thermostat set somewhere safe for the fish, 1 or 2 degrees above the controller temp rather than at max. So that if the controller fails on (or the probe falls out of the tank) then the water can't overheat. But I like multiple redundancies all across my tanks.

Re: Future Aquarium Stock Advice

Blue Tetra (ow Knodus borki rather than Boehlkea fredcochui I believe) like it more acidic and dark than I'm aiming, but they are a very pretty fish. Inpaichthys kerri also does better in a more acidic tank. Not a fan of the look of Colombian Tetra, I had entirely forgotten about rainbowfish after t...

Re: Future Aquarium Stock Advice

When I've seen pentazona's in person they don't give the same impression, to me they're more like big Cherry Barbs than Tiger barbs. I think the deeper body shape is part of the appeal of Tigers and Black Rubies.

I'm just being overly picky because there's so many choices.

Re: Future Aquarium Stock Advice

Yeah, this is for the next tank. Planting will be tailored to the fish once I've finalised that list. I can't seem to settle on a species list. I quite like the Giant Danios colouring and behaviour. Although if there was something even Blue-er I'd jump at the chance. I really want something tiger ba...
