Last night I tested the water in here after I had to euthanize one of the angels. Everything came out as I expected, even though I haven't tested this tank for over a year. When I put my stock/tank/filters into aqadvisor it's says I was 200% above on filtration.
I'm going to keep checking this week and hopefully put the wood back in at the weekend

If you were pushing your luck with stocking another fx6 might be needed to give you a bit more breathing space. Yeah mate I'm going to change the fx4 for an fx6 in the next couple weeks. Although I'm looking at alternatives as I'd prefer an inline heater. But don't think anything matches the power ...

So 3 days after a 450 litre water change the pH and kh have not moved.
So I can only conclude that putting the bigger filter and adding a bundle more bio media has solved this.

I use purigen in bags in my fx4s and now fx6. It lowers my nitrates from 40ppm to around 5. It also takes the tannins out of the water from Bogwood. Mine lasts about 6 months and I throw it away and replace with new rather than recharge with bleach. Don't have any filter floss or polishing in there ...
