Re: New tank, upgrading external filter
I'm using a 307 in a 200L. Easy set up and maintenance. If the cost is acceptable to you getting a bigger filter than necessary (407) sets you in good stead for future upgrades

So they're two different measurements, but both use the same units - German degrees.
Your KH is 5 German degrees (or 90ppm)
Your GH is 13.3 German degrees (or 240ppm)
The G in GH stands for general hardness not German, in case that's where the confusion is coming from?

Re: Best plant fertiliser?
I also use seachem excel but it is not a fertiliser. It is an alternative to co2 for low tech setups to improve growth and reduce algae. Plants need light, co2/excel and nutrients in the right balancd to grow well and prevent algae. I use dose easylife profito for nutrients which seems to do the job...

Re: Please explain this to an idiot...
Just in case it helps how I think about it : KH is your waters ability to resist a change in pH. If you take RO water with 0 KH, adding any acid will have an unopposed effect on the pH. The KH doesn't directly affect your fish but if it's low your pH will fluctuate wildly and that is detrimental to ...

Re: Anyone used a water softener?
I've done the maths on gradually softening my water using tap water : RO in 3:1 mix. Involves using less RO and not needing to remineralise other than kh. Also when at full flow it would involve using only 12.5L a week of RO water making it easier to obtain from my lfs infrequently. Though an excuse...

Otocinclus eating slime coat?
I've noticed over the past couple of weeks one of my otos is possibly having a nibble at my bristlenose and corys at feeding time. As soon as he settles on them they move away he swims off. He is smaller than the other otos - should I put veg in more regularly? They get a slice of cucumber 2 or 3 ti...

Re: Covid-19 vaccine
For reference narcolepsy uk released a statement regarding the 2009 GSK issue and the covid vaccines. "The SARS-CoV-2 virus, the pathogen responsible for COVID-19, is a coronavirus and not an influenza virus. Most of the vaccines in development against SARS-CoV-2, including the three vaccines c...

Re: GH Spike
I'm guessing a testing error? I've got wacky results that are different when I repeat the test sometimes and just out it down to non uniform drops out of the bottle. Particularly with GH as the nozzle on the first bottle sometimes drops big and sometimes it's half filled with air.
