Adding Guppy fry
#1
Hi guys, my guppies have given birth again and was unsure if it’s ok to put newborns with 1month old fry.
Would this be ok? And when would you recommend putting the fry back into the main tank? Thanks.

I don't bother moving mine any more.
I have them around 20 years and haven't added external stock for at least 18 of those years.......
If they're too big to be eaten then it's ok though. Wink

Usually once they start to gain colour you can move them across. As with Plankton, i never moved mine when i had them and most of them survived. You'll soon get bored of moving them back and forth as they breed like rabbits Tongue

If I'm not mistaken, guppies don't usually eat their fry?

yes got fed up of waking up to another dozen fry and then having to spend ages trying to catch the little buggers, my males and females are now separate but have been told the fry are ready to breed after a few months so when can you sex them as they all look the same at the moment. thanks.

In platys its around the 3-4month old mark that they start to show dimorphism (male/female). In guppies it should be easy enough as the tails and colours tend to give the males away. Also watch out for the gonopodium (the anal fin) in males it will change and form a spike sort of shape whereas females retain the fan shaped anal fin instead.
