Unwell fish
#21
Down to the last 5 from 18. Sad
Went to my local fish shop this morning as a last resort. She doesn't have a big stock but orders as necessary. I've bought everything from her apart from a couple of pumps. She said the baktopur is only for aquariums but she had one bottle left of Sera cyprinopur which is for ponds. I don't think it's an antibiotic more a prevention. It's a 3 day treatment. I've moved all the fish into one small pond and since putting the stuff in they seem quieter and not as stressed.
The big pump has arrived, not bad service. Not quite what I expected and there's no way of regulating the output so I'm going to have to put a tap on the outlet. It's a very low consumption motor, necessary as we are not connected to mains electricity.

Down to one and two babies now. Restocking now but first a couple of things to do to improve the system and also disinfect the pond but apart from salt I haven't found anything else to use. Not a lot of info on the net. Any ideas or advice please?

Firstly, I hope your wife is doing well.
Sorry for your losses on the fish front. Sad
I have no experience with ponds, but maybe a good dose of hydrogen peroxide would help disinfect, and also raise the oxygen levels (which may be one of the "bad water" causes for problems).
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! Big Grin

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

No more deaths so fingers crossed. I wrote to Sera yesterday and their reply was don't bother sterilizing. I think the cause of all this was two young fish bought a couple of weeks ago brought the infection with them. The water quality was good and with a cascade between each pond oxygen was no problem. There possibly was a bit of stress involved because of moving them around. I'll clean the big pond tomorrow and move the survivor into another pond. I need to get some fish in the ponds as we are having a plague of mosquito larva. Half a dozen spread around should be OK and if there are no further problems a few more in a couple of weeks time.
Thanks for the good wishes to my wife. She's going through a bit of a hard time at the moment. Two weeks ago she had a cateract op, we see the specialist Wednesday with the possibility of having the other eye done.
