Yea he was, so as I was just about to do my water change I noticed a plastic burning smell. Realised it was the new filter I bought, it was very warm to the touch. Checked the tank temperature and it was 33 degrees. Not impressed at all

Yea that's what I'm thinking, took the filter straight out and put my old one in, the water stunk of burnt plastic too.

Which now leads us to the question: how come the filter was smouldering / smelling of burnt plastic?

I'm assuming it was working ok before, good flow etc? Otherwise would an air lock somehow ruin the little engine inside during a prolonged dry run?

I have no idea what happened to be honest it was just red hot wasn't working either, had been the previous evening. Not sure what happened between me going to bed and getting up
