Thanks for your reply, this a few weeks ago now and we have since bought Eheim SubstratPro.
We binned the carbon as all the medication products always advise to remove any carbon from filters during use, which seemed a bit of a pain TBH.
Everything seems to be AOK Wink

Hi Annie,

SubstratPro is a good choice and that's what I use.

Activated carbon needs to be removed from the filter when adding medications because the activated carbon filters out medications making them ineffective. Once the medications have done their job, it is necessary to remove all traces of medications from the aquarium water. And that's when the activated carbon goes back in the filter but it's not necessary to leave it in there indefinitely.
