So I put some snowball melon in the tank last night for my plec and he seemed to love it. Got up this morning and my tank is a complete mess! Never putting melon in my tank again. I am busy doing a 75-80% water change and will need to change the floss in all my filters. What a nightmare!

Oh I tried butternut squash last week and both the plec and the rainbow shark really liked it and......it didn't destroy my tank

How much melon did you actually add? Sounds like maybe too much.

Well, I have had to completely clean all my filters. Not happy as I really do not like doing them all together alongside a big water change, I don't think it is the healthiest thing to do under normal circumstances, but needs must. I am so annoyed with myself. I watched lots of videos with people putting melon in the tank, but has gone disastrously wrong for me. Obviously picked the wrong melon and left it in too long.
So far the fish don't appear to be showing any signs of distress, thank goodness. It's going to take a few days to completely eradicate the damage to my tank. I plan on another water change tomorrow and clean half the decorations. Next day repeat.
I debated whether to share what a stupid thing I have done here on the forum. In the end I figured it might be a useful warning to someone....somewhere....?

Ah ok. Maybe try smaller portions next time. Sounds like it disintegrated quicker than your pleco could eat it!Fishtales wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 12:23 pmYes I put a lot in. Maybe in the future when we have all recovered from such a horror show, I might try him with a cube of melon, lol . I woke up to my tank looking like melon soup . So yes you are most likely right, a lot must have disintegrated, even though I am sure my plec did his best to eat what he couldlunar jetman wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 12:26 pmAh ok. If you put in an amount based on the size of the fish's stomach you won't go wrong
