How much soil for tank

Post by Juwelrio »

So missus has decided she wants the fluval chi planted with a betta. So how much soil would I need for it to cover the bottom. It’s a 12” cube only 19l. Tried looking but don’t know how much would be enough to get 2 cm don’t want to order too much or not enough.

Will be lots of questions as soil and planted tanks are very new to me. Thanks in advance

If it was me, 5-6 cm at the front and 10-12 cm at the back.

Sounds a lot, but remember the soil will compact down over time.
Boris has cancelled Christmas, great news, if your a Turkey.:dodgy2:

George Farmer recommends 6kg for the 57L flex. I had 9kg and did my flex and my old 29L with it. So 3kg bag should just about do it.
240L: 6 cherry barbs, 2 honey gourami,
6 Otocinclus, 11 sterbai Cory, 6 standard rummynose, 4 golden rummynose tetra and a visiting nerite snail.

57L: Ghost (Betta)

54L: Quarantine tank. 8 Congo tetra (by post, 17/11/2020).

Parameters: gH2, kH1, pH7.6 (tap).
Fish fiend since October 2017.

Don't use anything sharp like lava stone/rock with bettas, they're likely to catch their fins on it. ;)
Just cover with sand.

Seen natural volcanic substrate is that ok for planted tanks or do I need soil as well.
