New light or new tank?

I got Superfish replacement LEDs for the Trigon when the last bulbs went. About £90 as opposed to the cost of the Juwels.....
They fit in the Juwel fittings but have their own power sources so you can just have one on, you don't need both all the time.

How do they work with their own power source?
Is there an individual switch or something?

Yes, they fit in the fittings, but aren't powered by the Juwel driver, but plug in themselves. Well, you know what I mean.....they haven't got opposing thumbs or anything....

If your replacing the tank you have now put your money towards the new one. You will be surprised at what comes up on gumtree.

To get a half decent replacement for the duolux and then replace the whole tank does seem a bit like spending the same money twice, especialy if the new tank at least has LED lighting. An external filter would also be a nice upgrade in a secondhand bundle,

With that in mind i've been keeping my eye out for something probably max 3.5ft, but at least 200L, pref. slightly more.. if I could fit a 4ft tank in, that could be easier to find secondhand or open options up a bit more as there seem to be more of them about.

With my hard water I'm thinking either African cichlid tank, or some larger rainbows (e.g. boesmani?) along with my current stock but I'd need to stock to the tap water. I'm trying to think about getting a tank that suits what I want to stock rather than the other way round this time. Any other options I might consider for a 3/3.5ft tank? Or should I stretch to 4ft and also get a smaller sofa

Throw the sofa out and by a 8x2x2 tank and a bean bag to sit on.

If remember correctly I paid £350 for my 5x2x1.5 ft tank. It came with an fx6 and a fluval aquasky light.

Patience and checking gumtree at least 3 times a day is the way to find a bargain.

You may be onto something!

We have actually got an under-the-stairs sofa which doesnt get used and isn't really that great - that's in the way of the extra half foot on the other side. If that wasnt there I could go to 4ft but would have to watch the height and any maintenance on that side of the tank would be more difficult... plus that bit wouldnt get seen

I have suggested a couple of times that we need a new sofa, maybe even change the room around by sticking the TV under the stairs and that seemed to go down fairly well, especially the new sofa part... so who knows!

I'm keeping an eye on ebay at the moment and yes gumtree, marketplace etc. More to see what I can expect to pay ...until the time is right or I find something too good to pass up

Lets say I did go for a 4ft tank, e.g. Fluval Roma 240, with 2 x fluval 406 filters, 2 x co2 fire extinguishers (co2art regulator) and a bunch of other bits, is £250 a good price? (I found something local)

And would such a setup open me up to stock species that need a little more space? What am I limited to or does 4ft mean more just water and tankmate compatability becomes the main consideration? Can you compare to if I went for a 3ft?

Can certainly help with swimming room of some species sounds like a good buy as well, depending on how old the tank is.

So far I have found it is 2 years old, doesnt come with the original light but has a T5 LED instead, seller is going to check for scratches and send more details on the lighting later
