Got quite a few stoney beaches around 45mins from me, was thinking of taking the wife to stroll the beaches looking for driftwood etc for decor for the new tank. Anyone had any success?
Cleaning what I find isn't a problem, I can ultra sonic it at work and have a large oven to bake stuff in aswell

Be careful taking stuff from the beach. You don't know what nasties are in/on it.....it won't all come off with sonic and heat. ;)

I wouldn't use wood from beach. Salt gets in and doesn't come out that easily! not worth risking it.

Also anything found on UK beaches belongs to the Crown and it is possible to be prosecuted for removing items (this also includes driftwood) from a pubic beach.

Anyone who finds unclaimed wreckage in territorial waters or on a beach in Britain must inform the Receiver of Wreck, an official of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency appointed by the Transport Secretary. The law points out that people taking items off the beach were, in effect, stealing property from its owners.

I agree with the above comments, not worth it.
Plus the legality of removing stuff from the beach as Martin states.

Is there a reward on reporting people who do remove stuff from a beach? If so I might dib the dog in and replace her with a bigger tank... :dodgy:

Agree with above, too much salt, plus it’ll probably float forever.... although it’s perfectly safe. Any ‘nasties’ it might have will be marine, so not a problem for freshwater fish.
Go for a walk in a wood or by a river, and collect wood that’s preferably totally dry.

I've been scavenging in 'wooded areas' and that's all I'm saying officer. Got some lovely oak branches and just waiting for them to sink.
