With any reduced flow or changes of the make up of the aquarium you will get some algae issues, and as @plankton says I be a little wary about removing any media out of the tank.
The plan is too make any changes on a incremental basis watching closely along the way.

Algae is predominantly IMHO a cosmetic issue, my main concern is not too disturb the cycle.
OK, that's fine then... IMHO... Has anyone got a code book?!

its a "soup" made up of freeze dried Daphnia, freeze dried blood worms & tropical flakes.

Pop all the ingredients in a jar, add water from the tank

leave to soak for 20 or so minutes

Add some catfish pelltes before adding to tank.

Sunnyside is getting the same

Also took the opportunity to slightly rearrange The Fireplace today so that from my "normal" viewing position I can barely see the hardware in there.

Ok so small nitrite spike (also for the first time in a while seeing nitrates in there) in Fireplace following yesterdays "disturbance" in there (should really have added some stability as a precaution).

Have dosed with Prime + Stability this morning and the residents can have a fast day.
