So some of may have suspected from my comments in this thread that I had something up my sleeve, well I did :)

Anyways wind back to Xmas 19 and my grandson Eddison (then not quite 1 yr old) gave me a castle for one of my aquariums .

Now it has it's own home and residents, around 12 young Platys of varying sizes moved from the Fireplace. Am fully aware that this is not a long term home for them, plan is to keep trying to find new homes for them as they grow (& before they breed!!) .

I may have been a bit cavalier with the setup as I haven't done a full cycle rather I have added one of the sponges from the Fireplace and also filled it with water direct from there (yes I know the water doesn't contain much of the munchers but it;s what they've been in).

Also added a bit of the sand from the Fireplace (along with some I had out in the garage still), some java fern and some of the Frogbit.

Will add some more pictures as it clears.

Nice :)
I’ve done this a few times when setting up the qt/fry tank. I have also added either some tetra safe start or stability (more often stability because it works with prime). And adding some of the original tank water can help balance out levels etc even though it doesnt contain much if any beneficial bacteria/munchers.
As long as the filter is established it shouldn’t be an issue taking some media to set a tank up this way, just as long as you dont take too much ;)
Oh and 3.5-4months old, thats usually around the time platies start showing dimorphism and at that point they can start breeding ;) (trust me i know......)

Ta, the oldest ones are possibly coming up for around 2.5 months (first spotted end of December but they were relatively large then)

Looks great, must be nice to be able to make these kind of things, just fits nicely into that space, tanks do seem to have a habit of proliferating :D
