Latest tank image above - Day 22

Hi guys,

I've been keeping aquatics for 17 years, mostly large predatory freshwater tanks and in the past years, reef tanks. My partner and I have never kept a planted tank and with our current situation as pre-med students, a small, relatively low maintenance tank seems like the right way for us to get our aquatics fix.
Reds are on fire. CO2 and ferts dosing will be reduced leading up to the introduction of fish and shrimp.

The tank
- 10 gallon Water Box
- Fluval Plant LED
- Eheim 600lph return pump
- Eheim 75w heater
- CO2art pro-se series regulator
- 5 litre CO2 canister

- Large grain soil
- Powdered soil
- Fine sand

Maintenance and dosing
- 75% weekly water change
- Double dosing ferts daily
- High CO2 bubble-count (monitored)
- 12 hour photo-period

Livestock - Plants

- Ludwigia Palustris
- Rotala Green
- Microsorum Pteropus
- Anubias Nana
- Bucephalandra Theia
- Alternanthera Reineckii
- Helanthium Tennellum
- Cryptocoryne Nevelli
- Ranunculus Inundatus
- Micranthemum
- Vesicularia

Livestock - Fish/Inverts
8 Blue velvet shrimp
2 Asian Stone Catfish

Day 1 - Immediately after planting.

Day 9 - Expected crypt melt but nice progress with the reds

Day 22 - Time for a trim!

Welcome to the forum.

Thays a very nice scape you've made. Is the the cryp wendtii the red plant on the bottom left? If it is does it need co2 and good lighting? Wouldn't mind some for my betta tank.

Thanks bud :) That is Alternanthera Reineckii. It generally requires high light intensity and CO2. Most reds do from our reading. It seems very worth it though! I will be posting a more recent picture later showing the rapid growth and lovely deep reds found when using full CO2 setups.

Day 10 - The Ludwigia is really coming along; the redness of the leaves is slowly moving down each stem.

Right side Ludwigia especially!

Crypt has been trimmed right back, removing all melting leaves - Hopefully we'll get some regrowth.
