would like to add some temperate fish for the summer, maybe until October although understand might need to add cover and/or heater in September, don't think any of my existing fish are really suitable, so maybe something new but also constrained by the fact would like to add said fish into main tanks for the winter although I could set up another 60/80l tank upstairs I would rather not if I can avoid it, current favourites are WCMM (gold) Buenos Aires Tetra and Bloodfin Tetra, rice fish has been suggested but never seen any in LFS and don't look to have much colour so doubt I would see them in my large tub, trying to make the right choice but sometimes in the end you just have to go with it and see what happens :)

That is absolutely gorgeous!! You won’t regret it!! If u have any danios, I hear they can go outside in the warm months! I have a wee random gold wcmm who came with some goldfish I was given. He’s very active - thinks he’s one of the big boys.

Hi Ruth, I have some leopard danio in the 180 which I love they are very pretty but honestly they have been nothing but trouble, came with some kind of pathogen which wiped out a number of them plus a good number of other fish, they were tiny when I bought them so deformities were not obvious but now they are bigger most are deformed in some way missing an eye or bit bent etc, it's a shame but it's put me off putting them outside or getting any more, however I am considering orange finned danio to try if I can find any in lfs, glad to hear your one is doing well as he has been outside a bit already so WCMM might be good to start with at least.

Available space in QT tank and a tub needing some fish and a day off made today a fish shopping day :]

I knew I at least wanted some gold WCMM maybe 1 other similar for the tub, Buenos Aires has been ruled out on account of too many bad reports so maybe bloodfins, I rang round all the shops within travelling distance, most had only standard white clouds, eventually I found out Maidenhead at Rutland had both types of minnow plus bloodfins - result, never been before but really it's no further for me than Skeg (in Lincolnshire everywhere is a long way off) so me and the dog went off for a day trip, lucky it was cool enough to leave him in the car without worry, couldn't have done this last week,

I have to say I was ages, it was just so nice to be able to look round in a store, a new one at that, the garden centre it was in was massive but the store was quite small, it was quiet though so I didn't have to feel guilty at building a que up outside,

Firstly the bloodfins were a type called Rathbuns or green fire tetra can't say I took to them, so will keep an eye out for the standards which I have seen before and liked,
They did have Beacon Tetra which I have wanted for the 350 for some time so they were first,
Secondly I got some of the gold minnows the colour on them is great much stronger than expected I got 12 as they are quite small,
also thirdly a surprise purchase of Red-Chinned Panchax, despite the literature saying they are a mainstay of the hobby I don't remember seeing them before, they should stay fairly small at 2 inch and I much prefer them to the golden wonder ones I have seen everywhere else.

All fish now in QT tank,
Minnows seem a bit shocked and are all hiding out under the filter so I can't really see them,
Beacons seem ok but on closer inspection 1 has a number of fins missing amazed it can still swim, and 2 look like they have trauma to the stomach area it looks pressed in at the side very strange, I did look at them in the bag but obviously not carefully enough, disappointing however their colour is amazing the way it changes as it catches the light and they are quite well grown,
Panchax seem ok, thought due to the shape they would be active swimmers but actually it's the opposite, charmers they are, seem quite bold which is good,
Also bought an airline thing for the pond and another plant, I thought I would save money on buying stuff by ringing ahead, turns out that is not the case!

Think in general I will stick to ringing ahead, apart from bloodfins there are no other new fish that I want though I would like to expand on a couple of the groups I already have so it's a pretty short list, plus only the 350 tank has a lot of space the other 2 tanks not so much
I can't say how nice it was just to have a day out, and now some new fishy friends to look at, I had a great day :D

Love the tetra ! They look like the diamonds but without the finage. So shiney 😎

Glad you had a good day out. A trip to LFS definately lifts the spirits 👍

Very nice. :)
Check the beacons' digestive systems are working properly. You didn't happen to buy some live food while you were there did you?

@plankton They didn't have any live food for sale that I could see, I very rarely buy it now that I have a good supply of frozen as I find it a bit expensive for what you get, they are eating, I should think they would have starved by now if they couldn't digest anything although I suppose it could be a recent injury, think I will run a course of Esha but it really looks like trauma rather than infection will try to get a pic later it's very odd, on the plus side minnows are starting to come out a bit and they look good from what I can see but they are very skittish any movement and they are straight back into hiding, the panchax have some colour like a pale orange all over which I wasn't expecting so that's lovely

Beacon Tetra's I'd forgotten about them, I haven't kept them for years and to be honest I remember seeing in any shops down our neck of the woods for quite sometime. :$

I know they have been around a long time, but they are new to me, I am quite taken with them the way the tank light catches on the 'beacons' the original plan was to put the Xray tetra in the 350 but it's not turned out as dark in there as I thought the Xrays will just look lost so they can stay in the 180 for now where they look good and seem happy, bloodfins have also been around a long time and are supposed to be common but I guess trends change, or a new 'better' fish comes along
