New planted aquarium cycling 2weeks

Post by gantiz »

Hello friends

I have set up my first 25 gallon planted aquarium.. filter used - fluval aqua clear 110 power filter.. planted couple of Anubias, java fern, and some carpet plants and stem plants. Using Aqua neo CO2.. it’s been 2weeks for now since I started the cycle. 1st week daily water changes. 2nd week alternate day. I tested the water for ammonia and nitrites and the readings are 0.25ppm and 0 ppm respectively. Now I am not sure if the nitrogen cycle has started and how do I confirm this before adding any shrimp and fish? I am using Seachem flourish advance since day1 and thrive as fertilizer since 2nd week weekly 2 dozes of 2ml/10g. Plants have started showing new leafs but slow growth. I also tested the pH which is 6.5 to 7. Please advice and guide

Welcome to the forum. :)
What are you using to cycle it?
If there's no ammonia source then it won't cycle very much at all. (some "munchers" will appear from the air, but not enough to cycle it for fish)
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! :D

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

Thank you for your response. I have setup everything new and running the filter and adding fertilizer for the plants. Didn’t add any source for ammonia . Do I add some fish food and liquid bacteria for the cycle? How much to add? I am new to planted aquariums and looking for guidance and knowledge to seek.

Get some liquid ammonia such as Dr Tims Ammonium Chloride Cycle (Link) and follow the instructions in the previous post.
Good luck

Daily wouldn't harm for a newbie - help you learn and watch the nitrogen cycle progress. ;)
