Is the hardness very high, or are you in Scotland where the water is soft, yet alkaline?

I've recently had two Bloodfin Tetras suffer with bent backs, and I've just been reading about Tetra disease. Up until now I'd assumed it was just hereditary, but I wonder if its parasitic and it's that what's killed the BN? Should I treat for this?
