Howdy

So looking for a bit of advice. My friend has a group of 6 young Bronze Corydoras he has bred from his stock. I believe he said they are Corydoras aeneus.
So i have hard water.
Thames Water says :

My friend has similar water and says they are fine and happy.
A bit of reading online says they should be fine. But i just wanted to see if anyone has them and if they think it would be ok in my tank. As i prefer experience to internet opinion.
Its a 180 litre tank running at anout 23.5c and would change the fine gravel out for sand and install some sorts of cave or similar.
Possibly switch to an external filter as well.
Would only be sharing this tank with 2 female mollies.

Thanks in advance for any insight

Personally I would not keep Corydoras aeneus in water that is above 15dGH (German).
They are quite widespread throughout south America where the water is generally on the soft side.
Tank bred fish would be my choice if I had hard water.
Your tank size and water temperature is fine for Corydoras aeneus.

Good fish to keep with Molly are fish such as Platy which will love your hard water and the water temperature.

All the best

I might give them a swerve then. As dont want them unhappy.
Thankyou for the advice. Might just hunt down some more of the more colourful female mollies or look into some platy.
Thankyou

If they've been bred in the hard water, they may be more adaptable, but I'd be interested to see if they live for 20 years+ as they should, or even if they develop properly. ;)

Will keep an eye on his Corys. I think if i remember right he got his adult Cory about 4 years ago from his brother.
He normally removes the eggs so as not to overstock his tank. But guessing at some point he missed some

My gdh is 15 which I consider to be boderline for them, I have to be careful which Cory to get, and make sure they are tank bred, the ones I have seem to be doing ok, I've had eggs hatch but can't raise the fry beyond 10 days which I assume is due to the water hardness though I could be wrong, saves me spending lots of cash on the many different and lovely types there are, same goes for L number plecos so many pretty ones out there but all tend to need soft water, still as fish go they are fairly expensive so you get to save some monies ;)

@Stephen Thanks for this! Some time ago I did try a blonde bulldog pleco but I found it dead under the filter don't know if it got stuck there perhaps I was just unlucky, I do really like them so perhaps I should try again especially if I see one of the spotted ones, I didn't realise there was a spotted variety.
This has reminded me I wanted to ask you a question on plants but will ask it on your thread so I don't take this one over..
