Adolfoi & Duplicareus Corydoras

Post by Sixo »

Hi all,

Can somebody clear up what the difference is between Adolfoi & Duplicareus Corys? I often see posts about one being mis-labelled/mis-sold as the other.

Is one generally more expensive and prettier than the other?

Any other major difference in care requirements etc?

Seen these for sale on gumtree but the pictures not very clear.

According to Scotcat.com, Corydoras Adolfoi which has a much thinner black band down it's back.

The picture you've posted is not an Adolfoi but C. Duplicareus.

Duplicareus sold out which is really annoying, was pretty set on them, like their markings, especially with the little bit of yellow/gold on them.

I can't make my mind up if I like gold lasers or not, some people post photos and they look phenomenal, others they look a wee bit dull, especially for the price. Previously had Sterbai which are lovely but don't really stand out on the Limpopo sand (I know that probably suits them but would still like something a bit more eye-catching)

Think with my stocking I'm pretty flexible within reason for temperature to suit whichever Cory species I get:

Cardinal Tetras
Bolivian Rams
1 Albino BN Pleco (female)

Seeing this now I realise how good a deal that was, such a shame I spotted it late. Are these ones wrongly labelled aswell do you think?

Gold lasers like to hide a lot.
Corydoras trilineatus (sometimes mis-labelled as Julii Cory) will look good with your Limpopo sand, and they are usually on view.
They can take cooler temperatures (16C) and warmer temperatures (25C), so somewhere around 21C-23C is fine long-term (I have them at 24C).
They grow to around 2.2 inches so not tiny but not as big as the Sterbai cory.
