Hi All.
I niticed the other night that one of my young Discus has an almost persisent string of white almost transperent Poo hanging below. I think I read something once that it might be Flukes or worms!! Their very active and look healthy, feeding well too.
Here's a few pictures.

Help and advice, very welcome...

Mel.

If he is feeding well I doubt it will be a parasite, plus if the main food source is beefheart then generally that's what the poo will look like, parisite poo is more bobbled and totally white.

My Angels use to do this if they'd over eaten.

I used to keep discus and whenever one of them developed white stringy poo, they died a while after, gradually becoming more ill as time went on. I never ever worked out the reason, but discus, no matter how well you look after them, are difficult to keep healthy. Good luck, fingers crossed for you...

White poo means parasite, the parasite is taking all the goodness out of the food and just leaving the fish the non nutritional bit, which comes out as white poo.
One of my Oscars is doing the same, I'm treating the tank at the moment, with waterlife sterazine as recommended by @black ghost No I'll affects on fish or plants, worth a try.

I thought white poo doesn't always mean parasite, it could be what they've eaten or constipation?

Unless they’re eating something white, or something indigestible that’s turns white, then it’s probably either Capillaria or Hole in the Head (much less common). Usually Capillaria which is an intestinal worm. The abnormal segmentation of the poop also indicates a digestive problem, which could be caused by Capillaria.

How many discus do you have?

Run a course of something like NT Labs NT480 Anti-Fluke & Wormer Aquarium Treatment - don't let it get really bad as it'll get to the point where nothing can be done.

I dose it in my tank probably around every 3 months just to keep anything away. Discus are prone to worms and don't need much of an excuse to develop problems so alot of what I've read (inc the "discus manual" (Chris Ingham)) recommend regular worming.
