Hi all,

Just wondering what the smallest species of angelfish is and what they max out at size-wise? Any idea?

They're basically all one species, just colour/shape morphs. ;)
I believe the smallest is the platinum morph which is around 5"-6".

My LFS had some called Dwarf Angel fish, I was like wow this would be great- but then it appeared they only like an inch or so smaller than others.. so not sure what’s the point 🤨

Any angelfish will grow to 5 inches+, I do not believe there is such a thing as a dwarf angelfish.

There are some in my lfs that are labelled as dwarf angels (leopoldi) unsure how big they actually grow though

There are 3 species. Leopoldi is the smallest, at about 3-4” body length. True scalare and altum grow to about 6” body length.
True scalare are rarely seen these days (except as “Peru altums”). Most domestic angels are scalare x leopoldi hybrids, which stay slightly smaller.

Pterophyllum leopoldi. 5" long by 8" inches in height recorded in the wild, but much smaller in captivity but beware, they are reputed to be the most aggressive of the three species. :]
