As mentioned many dwarf cichlids take up a territory (a lot are roughly 30cm2) and if there isn’t enough space for them to get away trouble can arise with either males harassing females or females harassing males, or females fighting over territory.
I had my first pair in a 180l vision (just short of 3ft/90cm long) with platies, they were put in after the platies.
Currently i have one female in the 180l and her previous partner used to have a beating from her after they bred, we had to put him back in my 100l until she lost/lost interest in the fry.
