Folks not having had a Betta before is it normal for them to be pretty inactive? Mine mainly lies across the filter spray bar only just under the surface, or hands around the filter intake. He's eating swimming after food and shows interest when you approach the tank but other than that he doesn't do much swimming. Temp is 26 and water parameters are fine.

It's not unusual for them to sit around. Apparently chucking a ping-pong ball in keeps them entertained. I haven't tried it myself.

Bettas can be lazy fish. They aren't huge swimmers like most other fish they won't be constantly swimming around, they like to rest on leaves or wherever really. They do like to go up for air or hang around near the surface, mine have always loved their floating betta logs.
