Lemon tetras, they colour up really nicely and aren't a problem. They can also take a whole range of temps.
I'd be suspect keeping gold barbs at a higher temp permanently anyway.
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! :D

I’ve read sites saying they should be kept at 29c! There’s so much conflicting info online :(

[/quote]Matingbehaviour of gouramis is triggered by temperature. Long term they can be better kept cooler.

I don't know what happened to our hobby cause it seems people are starting to keep fish warmer and warmer nowadays.
Where are the good old 24/25 degrees?

I keep most of my fish even unheated hahaha. So I did with Golden Barbs.

We might reach the boilingpoint this century hahahaha.
