Ruth wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 12:19 pm 😢. One of my rescued fish has disappeared. It was the fancy one. I’ve rooted about in the pond but I can’t find him.

Everyone else is having a ball in there tho and really active. Maybe he just wasn’t suited to the colder water. Sorry wee fish 😢

Also ..... do goldfish pair up? Got a new one yesterday and when I put (what I now imagine is) HER in yesterday - two fish took quite a shine to her! I’m assuming they are Male as one of them has bumps on him ( Martin tells me that’s a Male). I was actually worried about the attention she was getting, but had to leave them to it! So this morning she is palling about with one of the chasers! Does that sound normal for goldfish in a pond? I had called her Paul, but I think now Pauleen is more appropriate...
When my goldfish are in 'spawning mode' I usually see one female followed by about 4/5 males zipping around the pond. Then as mentioned, next thing you see it tails flapping and splashing in the reeds/ plants/ shallows. If you need cover against predators, I'd possibly look at the floating hexagonal mesh things rather than a net. They float and clip together and you just put them around the edge of the pond. A net is the 'ultimate' protection/ solution, but I hate the look of my pond when I put the winter netting on. I've not tried them yet, but will probably do so, once autumn comes around and Mr Heron is back on the prowl.

Thanks for that - I’ll ask the LFS tomorrow before I get a net. I will have to get something - there were a lot of seagulls about today! 😳

That could be Lulu's job - guard the pond against those gulls ::thumb::

Keeps her busy and mentally stimulated... :D

I don’t think you’ve met wee Timothy. He’s hard to photograph on account of his colour - best pics I can get of him...
