I would say really I dont want to go over 300 for lighting and if i can go below that that's even better. I will definitely be looking at ebay. I have allowed about 200 for the skimmer and then probably just a couple of 300W heaters in the sump they shouldnt be too much. Also return pumps dont seem to be that expensive. I will take a look at the t5 I'm assuming the only downside to them compared to led is the life of them.

yeah, that and you can't dim them. If you can afford a hybrid unit then certainly go for one of them! You will find some of the best reef tanks out there run on hybrid or T5's even though its technically 'old technology'
