These little fellas are known to like hard water though you don't see them around as much these days. I've kept them in a 240L 4ft tank before with smaller 'proper' rainbows and they did OK, got some character when in a group of 8-10.

I like the look of the scarlet badis and the rasboras. However from what I have read they all seem to be suited to a lower PH. So it seems to be either a group of Danios and some celeb rainbows or trying to find African cichlids which would be small enough for the tank width.

Mr P, which MA was it, might be interested in picking up some in the future.

Thanks, sorry for derailing the thread a bit but I genuinely haven't seen many places stocking them recently. It would probably be after xmas if I was thinking about getting some so they might be gone by then but handy to know for future ref. Found an old pic from when i had some in a Juwel Rio 240

The badis and green rasbora are ok in hard water.
Some other rasboras prefer soft though......

I thought green rasbora erred troward softer water?
Another possibility might be the asian rummynose rasbora/barb Sawbwa resplendens

not to be confused with 'false' rummynose (Petitella georgiae) which likes quite acidic peaty conditions and can be quite sensitive to new tanks apparently.
