My API master test kit arrived today. I'm not great at reading but I've looked through the booklet that came with it. I cleaned the tank out weekend just gone. Should I now test for everything with my kit. It has 7 bottles.
Many thanks

Have a go Dave. How long has the tank been running?
64l kitchen tank: 16 golden tetra.
5ft 425L: 7 blue angel fish, 30 rummie nose tetra, 20 black neon tetra, 1 longfin bristlenose plec, 2 corydoras sterbai, 2 SAE.

We set it up in May of this year, did everything by the book.
My results are as follows...... pH 7.6. High Range pH 8.2. Nitrite and Amonia both 0 and Nitrate is between 10 and 20, it's orange in color. At this time these results mean nothing to me but I'm hoping to learn

Your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are exactly what you wanted. It shows the nitrogen cycle is being completed.DaveC wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 17:32 pm We set it up in May of this year, did everything by the book.

Your ph is high though. Someone more knowledgable about that will help if they see this.

Your nitrate is pushing up to a level you don't want as far as I know, anything over 20 is a warning.

20ppm is fine for most fish. It's only a problem if your keeping very temperamental fish.FishyMcFishFace wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 17:38 pm Your nitrate is pushing up to a level you don't want as far as I know, anything over 20 is a warning.

You've ruled out ammonia and nitrite poisoning at least.
How hard is your water?

8.2 is quite a high pH, Guppies and platies would prefer 6.8-7.6. X-ray tetra prefer slightly acidic (pH under 7) water but can thrive up to 7.4 ish.
If I remember from the other thread 75L tank where hardness was 10dGH? Moderately hard. And you'd been running at 26C until recently and are now lowering towards 23C. Your fish shop had said your KH was low (which can lead to pH being unstable).
The long term high pH may have made them more susceptible to some diseases, hard to pin down which though.
