Should I just leave the little fry alone and see what happens? I’m genuinely surprised it’s not been eaten.

RSD sucks and I totally understand where you’re coming from with all of what’s happened (I am such a fawner/people pleaser and always assume the person “in charge” knows more than me).
The way to look at it is this; if you return the fish, they’re just going to be kept in the same “wrong” water conditions by the LFS and then, potentially, in another customer’s tank that might not even be properly cycled.
So; what you can do is your best to ensure the water in your tank is suited to them. I would invest in the gH/kH kit, and see what number you get. Then if necessary you can buy remineralisation salts to harden the water at each water change. Happy fish, hopefully happy you.

Agree with @VikingMummy2015, but don't raise the hardness too quickly as it can cause what is wrongly called ph shock - it should be called TDS (total dissolved solids) or hardness shock.
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it!
Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

I was looking for the fry and couldn’t see it. Eventually spotted it but I swear it was smaller so I think possible I have more than one that’s survived. Have gone from playing spot the snails to spot the fry.

There will likely be several fry lurking and it’s amazing how well they can hide!

Re: Complete newbie and clueless!
So had my fish for a week now. I initially thought a couple just had nips out their tails but it’s gotten worse so I now think they have got fin rot
asked the lfs about it via Facebook and they suggested I could just put a handful of table salt in to the tank which I think it’s bs advice which I will ignore. So actual knowledgeable people, what treatment is best?

Clean water (water changes with conditioner) is usually the best treatment for most things or interpet anti-fungus works well, API Melafix is another good one but half dose with labyrinth fish ( gourami, betta etc )

My water parameters haven’t changed much - perhaps my nitrate is slightly high at 20ppm but I have 0ammonia and 0 nitrite. Was due a water change tomorrow anyway.
