STAFFY... I know what you mean. I have black compost at the right and left of the white bit, and the Corys know that the flow of the water takes the food there when I drop it in. When they go to get it they become almost invisible. All you can see is the dirt they throw up. I made the mistake of putting "fish-friendly" compost down first, and covering it with the coloured pebbles. The Cory soon found what was under the pebbles and dug them up. That was 6 months ago and I need to clean the fiilters each week, just to get rid of the debris. Even though I took very great care to rinse the compost, there is still debris from it. To add some colour into the tank, when the new regulations are able to let us out, I may buy 6 or 7 Coloured Rasbora. I also intend to get 3 or 4 girl Guppies for one of the boys to breed. However I don't wish to have the ladies in the community tank. I'll keep a few male babies and give the rest away.
Looks like the youngster is coming on a treat, Jon
It's good to see them swimming together.

Things are getting out of hand! I started with 5 Pepper Corys 7 months ago and to be honest I really love watching their industrious efforts to grab, dig for food, and destroy my substrate. However, and it is now a BIG HOWEVER, what started as a lovely little family of 5 has now grown to 9 and this morning I have yet 2 more. During the water change I noticed 2 little tiddlers sheltering in a corner of the community tank. Netting them out I see they are baby Corys! So I have carefully placed them in the Kintergarten Tank along with some Elodea Densa fronts and fed some deydrated Infusoria+ other stuff,. I fortunately had some of the latter, "Protogen", which i feed to my favourite boy Guppy, Joe. (named after one of my Grandsons.) If the population explosion continues I must start giving some of the Corys away., or exchange for a few girl Guppies. I mean 11, is just too many.

Well I'm not sure whether to congratulate you on your new additions Jon, as I understand the concern of an ever growing population. I am just implementing a leave them alone policy. So far I have only had 2 survivors, from probably quite a few batches of eggs. It's still too early to say whether the second one will make it yet, but so far it is doing well

The teenagers are now almost as large as their parents in my tank, and I think they are beginning to behave as adults. Its beginning to get difficult to distinguish them form the adults. I think that at least one of them is starting to chase his Mum around the tank. So my question is, when do they become sexually mature. I think two of mine are about 3 - 4 months old. I have another question on the tetra forum.

They'll need a few months yet, more than 2 anyway. Remember they should be living for around 20+ years, so don't to develop too quickly like livebearers.
