Hiya, for those who have this as their substrate, is it actually really black?

Sixo posted a pic today re one of his fish, but the Limpopo sand looked like a dark silver grey rather than black...

I'm trying to work out what I want for the new tank and although I'm not adverse to a darker substrate I don't want it to be really really uber dark.

Also trying to work out how much I need for a tank which is 130cm x 50cm.

At the moment I have Unipac fine silver sand which I really like, but it took ages to clear when I added it to the tank, even after years of rinsing, although luckily I could wait before adding the fish. I won't have that time with the new tank and am aware that particles in the water can cause gill irritation...

For a lighter substrate I like the look of this. I emailed Pro shrimp and they advised it would be fine for Cory's... What do you think? Billed as gravel, 1-2mm.

Is there anything similar to the Limpopo but a bit lighter maybe if the quartz stuff no good for Cory's?

Cheers

I've got limpopo black sand in my big tank. It's not black. I can post pics of my unipac and flourite black sand to show you the difference?

It’s more black/brown & imo looks more natural than a flat black.
This is it taken with a macro setting (the cory fry is a few hours old)

it's the unipac black limpopo I have in my big tank, mixed with Tropica soil.

Image. I like the mix, makes it look more natural. The sand is definitely grey than black.

I've literally just had a 20kg (I think it's 20kg) of this very sand delivered for my new layout. Putting it against the very black of my tank hood. I'd say it's a very dark grey.
On another note is it worth rinsing it before using it?

I rinsed mine off before it went in. It was a bit dusty.
