I setup. 4 ft tank for discus with big pieces of bogwood and smooth rocks but after running* for month and half savin* money i dont think i have the time necessary for them with all the beef heart and that so im going to go for the above cichlids , maybe add some more rocks, anyone had experience with them at all? Any tips?

How hard is your water? The Malawis will need it very hard and alkaline.

also beef heart isn't recommended long term for feeding.

Its about 7.8 which i bottom end for them i think

Is that ph or hardness?
They need hardness of above 17dGH.

Oops sorry yeah ph is 7.8 and last i checked hardness was about 14 maybe ill have to check again im away at moment so can.t check my book ill let you know

Back home now water parameters ph 7.4-7.6

Think Malawi's would be feeling slightly light-headed in that water.

Coral sand and "ocean rock" or limestone for decoration should bring the hardness up.

Coral sand works wonders. It should buffer the water to a good 8 - 8.2 PH and raise the hardness up somewhat.
