Does anybody know what’s up with this zebra danio? Was doing a water change today and notice raised scales on his back and faded colour in his middle. I don’t normally pay too much attention to the zebras. They just bomb about up the top of the tank

Just done a Google search. A bit baffled as to what could have caused it. All the other fish are fine. Annoyed at myself for not noticing it earlier,.put it to sleep seems to be the consensus online. Do you know of there’s anything I can try to help it out.

Dropsy. Fluid buildup or swelling pushing the scales out. Either way probably organ failure.
I don't keep fish, I keep water. Water keeps fish.

I’ve only managed to get one fish to recover from dropsy, temporarily.
Unfortunately once they get to the stage where the scales spike i dont think theres much that can be done :(

Thanks for that. Will euthanise in the morning. A bit gutted, everything was going so well lately.

Organ failure is a common cause of ‘death from old age’, so it’s probably just that.
