How long does it take for moss to attach itself firmly to wood? I have wrapped fishing wire around the moss to attach it to the rocks but at some point I want to cut off the fishing line and let the moss grow naturally.

Depends but I usually tie it with cotton and leave it as it slowly rots away.

Your quite correct, it is stone and I don't know why I said wood, so I will give it a couple of weeks and then cut the fishing line and see what happens.
The redwood in the background will be next, just pondering which moss to use?

If you can find some, fissidens is a beautiful moss.
