Hello everyone,

Has anyone kept this breed of fish or does anyone have any currently? I really do like south american species and am seriously considering these but I want to do my homework first.

I like to research but I also like hear experiences directly from people who keep them so any information would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hello, welcome to the forum.

I’ve kept them. Laetacaras are usually very peaceful towards other fish, but they’re cichlids so how many you keep depends on tank size. If they decide to breed you can get a bit of aggression amongst themselves.
How big is the tank, and do you have soft water?
I don't keep fish, I keep water. Water keeps fish.

I kept them a few years ago, lovely peaceful cichlid.
They used to hide alot behind some bogwood but it was nice to see them when they appeared.
They are my favourite smaller cichlid.

Should be fine :)
Depending on what other fish you're considering both the Corydoras venezuelanus & Laetacara dorsigera can be kept at 22/23C
