Re: Otocinclus Catfish

Mine were really tiny, about 5mm. It's hard to believe these were captured wild judging how long the distribution chain must be.

Re: Otocinclus Catfish

I've very recently introduced 2 as the first fish in my refurbished aquarium. Both seem to be fit and well and enjoying the abundant algae. The tank's about 75 litres and I've read that they're better off in larger groups, but there were just 2 in the shop.

Re: Rio Nanay Tetras ?

Apparently the Nanay river contains several species not native to it. During the rainy season, lakes are formed that are fed from one river and continuing rain may let it drain into the Nanay. Discus were mentioned as one of the non-indigenous species. That is according to a Spanish speaking local ...

It only takes fish a minute or two to fill their bellies. Any more is just greed...

The oxygen level of the water will not be reduced to zero by the pump being switched off.

Re: Old homemade tank

Hi Mito, I 've lived for the last 30+ years in Avilés, Asturias and probably haven't spoken English for 5 years at least; gone native with a vengeance. You seem to have aquarum shops in Alicante and shopping iin Málaga seems unnecessary. My local (walking distance) shop is ready to order anything fr...

Re: Old homemade tank

Very little room. A shelf that is packed with books, files and boxes and which I've got no wish to disturb.

Re: Old homemade tank

Well; I've taken the decision and have started to strip the tank including the dry gravel encrusted mats of dead algae. I can't see much alternative to scubbing the front with steel wool and ample elbow grease. What remained of the lid and fluorescents will be binned tonight. The heater still basica...

Taxonomic suffix codes

I'm seeing several plants and fish with alphanumeric codes after their taxonomic names, such as Hygrophyla siamensis 53B This is a bit new to me and I suppose its some form of provisional coding before a definite name is given. Is that right and how do the codes work?

Re: COME ON ENGLAND

It was good of Spanish TV to broadcast it live and even better to see England defeat Gemany for once.
