Re: External filters
Thanks all, I'll persevere and get to the bottom of it, I've never known anything like it, I've pretty much stripped it down and rebuilt it, pipes cleaned through, impeller and barrel all cleaned, the works. I've actually taken out the prefilter completely for now. The flow is better, but still nowh...

My maintenance routine is 20-25% water change weekly and given its got the pre filter I give that a good clean...

I believe that the softeners should have a bypass valve on them, have a look see if it does, you can then flick it over get your water and then click it back for normal use.
Otherwise I would consider getting water from somewhere else, I used to collect rainwater for one of my softwater tanks.

Re: Air pump
I found that a few stones along the length of the tank helped keep the crap off the bottom stirred up so that it went up the filter rather than settling and waiting for me to siphon it out. It did take a while to get the positions right though

Definitely the bigger you can go. My old 6ft was so much less work on maintenance than any of the other smaller tanks I've had

Re: Clownman's 240 aqua one log
Congrats on your spawn mate. Are they the only 2 angels in the tank? Yes mate, they have only been in there about three weeks now. I'm not holding out much hope they will treat them though, cichlids always usually take a few spawns until they manage it fully. I've got about a dozen Cory's hatched a...
