I kind of did too, but the algae on the rocks, the calcium build up that I couldn't remove and the fine gravel full of BBA was the last straw.

Yes keep dosing the ammonia until the day before, big water change to remove any excess nitrates and stock as much as you want (for the tank size/filter ofc!!)

To round it up, 30L is too small for swordtails and guppies, but adding them to the 100L with soft water fish is also a no. Increase the GH for the livebearers is ok, but not if they are in the same tank with soft water fish. Either keep the livebearers in the bigger tank without the softwater fish ...

I bit the bullet and cracked on with the tank rescape on monday night. Everything came out, the tank was scrubbed from top to bottom to make sure its all clean and free of algae.
