Hi, I’ve got a new tank coming.(209 litre’s ).I’ve decided on the OASE bio external filter. The 250 says it does upto 250 litres and the 350 does upto 350 litres.Would the 350 be overkill and too powerful?
Thks.

You should aim for about 1000-2000 lph, depending on what fish you’re keeping.

This may be worth a look, he has some interesting points about the pre filter slowing the flow down.

Take the "Up to" figure with a pinch of salt.
The Oase 250 is suitable for aquariums of around 120L-180L (900L/h), despite Oase stating up to 250L maximum

I would go with the Oase Biomaster 600 external filter.
It will not be overkill on a 209L aquarium but the better option of the Oase external filters.

Other options:
Fluval 407 external filter.
Eheim Pro4 600 external filter.

I have 2 x Eheim Pro 600 external filters on my 550L aquarium

All the best
425L SeaBray Elite aquarium - Rio Mamoré (Bolivia) theme
4 x Cupid Cichlids, 14 x Cory caudimaculatus, 13 x Cory sterbai 52 x Reed Tetra, 4 x Honeycomb Bristlenose (L519)

I've got the biomaster and replaced the prefilter foams with coarser ones and drilled additional holes in the prefilter pipe, didn't measured the flow before and after so can't comment on the flow before and after.

Its a great filter 👍

It's out of stock on swell site they had it for sale at £200 but it's sold out. Might be worth keeping an eye out see if they get more in. That's the cheapest I've seen it anywhere brand new.

@stanster where did you get your coarser foams from any links?

I’m running the 600 on my 240L tank and absolutely not over filtered! I bought a pack of the orange prefilter sponges and use 3 of them plus 3 of the blue ones it came with. Switch them out each week.
240L Fluval Roma with Oase 600 Biomaster: 1 German red bristlenose, 4 male cherry barbs, 6 standard rummynose, 3 golden rummynose tetra, 9 emperor tetra, 14 cardinal tetra, 2 hengeli rasbora, 3 nerite snails, 1 adult Sulawesi snail and multiple juveniles continually appearing.

Parameters: gH2, kH1, pH7.4 (tap).
Fish fiend since October 2017.

Is that the coarser prefilter sponges VM? I've ordered this filter and I'm trying to do my homework on what tweaks I can make to get the most out of it.

Thanks

The orange ones are coarser.
The other easy thing to do is to drill some more holes in the inlet tube in the prefilter.
Then it up to you what you do in the trays.
I bought a thinner medium foam and cut it using the supplied foam as a template and then added some filter floss. Rest of the baskets have biological media.
