Back to that damn algae. I keep cutting it away and it seems to come back even more. Same area just more of it. Same colour too. I dont particularly want to change that bit of wood so is there any other method i could use to get rid of it?

I was just wondering if its still some biofilm leeching out eg from a split or crack in the wood that wasn’t there originally.

I've never seen white algae, almost every other colour but not white. As mentioned it sounds like a biofilm, bacteria can grow that fast.

I have employed the help of a nerite snail and it would appear it has munched half of it. I hope he goes back for the other half but got a feeling this ‘hydra’ algae will just sprout twice as much back.
However, i will research this little bugger cos i wanna find out what it is.

Just an update on this, each time i scrape it off my wood (every week) it comes back more aggressively so now i am going to resort to cutting off that branch. I will treat the cut end with peroxide then boil it to bits. Surely to goodness that should do it? If not its a rescape for me. Although initially its starts off as white, black bits are now forming. So you guys were right all along bba (maybe the white ones were an albino version )

What you have to remember many algae species will grow given the right conditions.
Every aquarium will have some, mine does. If it keeps coming back, then I suggest the right nutrients are in or on that piece of wood you have, hence why it keeps growing there.
All you can really do is to keep treating it, remove Black bush algae as it grows or soak the wood in a bucket of fresh water, changed daily.
