Shame we don't seem to get the fish auctions down here anymore.

I was just sat watching the big tank, when casually another baby rainbow fish fry started doing lengths across the top of the tank. I wasn't sure if it was a bonus one or one of the others had just escaped from the fry tank.
I quickly grabbed a net scooped him out, thankfully before the parents spotted him and he's now in the shrimp/ fry tank. He is indeed a 5th bonus fish. About half the mass of the current smallest fry and about a quarter of the mass of the largest baby already in there. I think it's from the same batch, but hasn't had the 24/7 buffet the others have been treated to.
Interestingly even though the largest rainbow fry is still under 2cm, I did see it chasing/ lunging at small shrimp fry. I'm surprised they're so aggressive toward the shrimp at such a small size. Think they'll be getting relocated to a net in the big tank sooner rather than later.
I did also manage to clean the 406 filter out on the big tank tonight. I've not seen poop/ sludge like it since I left the pond too long! Disgusting. I thought one Media basket had x4 sponges in. Turned out x2 sponges and x2 sponge like massive lumps of sludgey poop! Delightful!
After a good clean up, the filter is pumping our much more flow and it seems to have woken up the whole tank.
Uploading a video now of the giddy fish as I haven't done an upload of the overall view for a while. Very much enjoying fish land at the moment.
I did notice my x2 biggest rainbow fish males swiping and picking at each other and a few open sores and white small lumps. Currently treating with Esha 2000 and hopefully it'll clear things up.
Watch this space for the video.

Yea they're really affected by different lights too. The normal ones were nice, but then I found albino ones in a shop with amazing lights and the blue stripe along the back really popped. Not sure it has quite the same effect under my cheap LED's. Still nice, but then then rainbow colours pop under any light.FishBubs wrote: Tue Aug 27, 2024 19:59 pm Lovely set up you have . Rainbows and congos do just go nice together. I never realised how colourful the congos are until mine started to grow.
