Finally sold a few sterbai so the numbers are down a bit in the big tank at last which will improve water quality. (Still way over stocked but it's a start)
I decided to use the new hang on breeder box to try and selectively breed some shrimp for the first time ever. I got x1 almost completely white (what I think is either male or small female, hopefully male) and added him with the whitest adult female I've got. Interested to see if the babies come out any whiter than the normal crystal reds. If the smaller white one turns out to be a chunky girl, I'll find another whitish male and add him at a later date.
Going bigger

As I now have a lot of plecos in the big tank, I've always wondered of there was any chance of breeding with so much competition and big mouths (rainbow fish, etc) roaming around. Last night I saw a yellow L236 trying to force (her) way into a cave a white L236 (male) was guarding. I watched them swap positions a few times with her popping in and out. When she went in, he followed her and did his little vibrating dance. This happened a few times until she left, he went in and has been fanning since last night.
I wasn't confident I even had any L236 females, so the behaviour was both a surprise and a really positive one. I'm water changing today, so hope this doesn't disturb him too much. Hoping he's got a little clutch if eggs in there. Going to leave them to it until thursday/ Friday next week if he's still in there, then try and remove the eggs (if there are any) and transfer them to a hang on fry box to raise. With x20 sterbai, about 18 plecs, plus everything else in there, I doubt the fry would survive unprotected.
Maybe it was just a practise and nothing will happen. Who knows. Still interesting and exciting behavior. Plus I'm now 99% i have at least one girl.
Here's a video of him vibrating then them changing positions, etc before they both went back in.

He's still in there fanning away She occasionally sits on top of the cave. He's not been out for food in 48hrs so very likely sat on eggs. Going to try and pull them out on Thursday so they don't get eaten in the big tank if they hatch.

Well we're on day 6 of the L236 fanning. Finally spotted some yellow eggies under him last night. (Hooray! I was about to sell some as I thought they were all males!) I definitely saw 2 eggs (you'll have to believe me from the low grade photo from a screen shot from a video inside a dark cave). Not sure how many there'll be in total, but I think tomorrow should be the day we find out. Google tells me 6-8 days for hatching depending on temperature. I think I'm at the lower end of the temp scale. As soon as they wiggle, they're coming out or I'll be trying to pick them out of rainbow fish mouths I'm sure!
He's done a great job for what I assume is his first time. Interestingly, the other big male, nicknamed 'sausage fish' (because he's a chunk and his body is like a sausage) has spent the last 4 days or so, hanging out a cave in the pleco palace (big slate cave structure) occasionally fanning, with one of the smaller L236 sat on top. I wonder if this is another female as the yellow female of the successful spawn keeps hanging around on top of the cave with eggs in it. Seems that females hang around caves for some days before spawning. That'd be exciting if they start breeding too!
In other news, the white lumps/ growths/ body lumps have annoyingly come back on 2 females. I really don't know what to do. One seems fine, but the other lethargic. No other fish in the tank are affected again. Boesemani only. I'll try and squeeze a quarantine set up in over the weekend and see if any of the meds help this time. Sad to see, but weird it's just them.
