As for fish and insects, the first 40 seconds of this video of my fry shows that hunting instinct :)

Now I don't feel as guilty about my cat doing the same to them!
Yeah its not just cats that go for the bugs, or do you mean the cats go for the fish? 😳

Spent yesterday doing a big overhaul. Cleaned the filters and replaced the purigen in there. I didn't fancy recharging it as the thought of putting bleach near the filters scared the life out of me so just put new in there.
I've made a few more caves and tried plants again (I said I'd never do it again) but it seems to have calmed the big oscars down a bit, with more swim through and stimulation.
Took the air pump out aswell, gone off that now. Later today I'm going to reposition my powerheads, just to experiment to find the best place for them.
Tank now...

All you need to do to get rid of bleach is to soak it in conditioned water for a couple of hours.... ;)
But do use thin bleach (no perfume or surfactants), not the thick.

I wanted some thin bleach for my paddling pool last year and found it quite difficult. Supermarkets all want to push thick bleach as it has a much bigger profit margin, so the only thin bleach available was in value ranges and it was weaker than kitchen surface cleaners. When Americans talk about bleach doses what they buy for household use is stronger.

The "Milton" bleach for babies things is fine (and the cheaper equivalents).

Yeah I'm burying head in the sand at the moment, but took the oscars knowing I may need to rehome. 3 of the parrots are 8 years+ so not sure how long they'll last

Moved my powerheads, from everything I read, Oscar's natural habitat is slow moving water.
Mine absolutely love swimming in the stream, they push each other out the way to swim against the tide then rocket jet propelled back across again!

So I did my change over, far harder work than I thought but very happy with the results and the fish like it so a win-win.

Pics of the transformation...

The most tame oscar I have, won't get out of my way when I'm in the tank, lodges himself in my hand, lays on my arm, its great, unless you actually want to get stuff done in there!!!
