Hello all

So I have a plan for this Friday Tank maintenance but which one would you pick...

What I need to do:
  • Pull all Rotala out
  • Replant Rotala
  • Push the Legenandra Meeboldii back in the substrate
  • Change 50% of the water

Plan A
Doing all this while the filter runs and live stock in the tank...
Pull all the rotala out gently and replant them with better space...
Take care of the Legenandra Meeboldii by pushing them deeper until root are buried... (if can)
Then wait around 30 mins for thing to settle down... (reason for waiting is for the nitrite spike that comes after)
Once settle down do a 50% water change... and keep an eye on Param and the live stock...
Plan B
Take all the live stock out and put filters in a bucket...
Pull all the rotala out and replant with better space...
Take care of the Legenandra Meeboldii by pushing them deeper until root are buried... (if can)
take out all the remaining water replace it with new treated water...
Put fish back in tank and put the remain water in bucket back into tank with filters...
I'm Thinking Plan A will be my choices

Thanks for reply's on this it will help me :)

Can I ask why the nitrite spike is happening after you just replanted the plant? Thanks

Hi @Redpanda

Not sure why it happens I just know that when I mess with the substrate I always get a nitrite spike after.
I'm guessing it because I don't touch the substrate at all unless I need to so it builds up for all sorts...
Also I think it because under the substrate is a bio load area of stones and sands in the center it got like 2kg of lava rocks and 2kg of sands on top then the substrate on top...
and also it got root tabs as well which may also be a factor in the nitrite...
I know from two other times I mess with the substrate the nitrite hits up to 5ppm

If it were me, having had spikes when doing things, I wouldn't do them again..... ;)
And I'd probably do Plan B if I had to sort something out......

This week OMG 😲

I removed 95% of the rotala and should of done it sooner... all 95% could not be replanted they feel like sticks and look like too...

I also trim the BG and the moss tree...

Pushed the Legenandra Meeboldii back in the ground...

I think it looks better so now I just need to keep an eye on water parma and do water changes

Lots of pictures today.

It's no wonder you have issues if you keep feeding your fish Doritos and Chocolate Eclairs. :dodgy2:
