As long it's just above the waters surface and down to the aquarium base, they shouldn't be able to escape.
If not, may I suggest 'Goon' towers, search lights, barbed wire and armed guards with dogs.

Well it turned out, she was trapping him, more than him trapping her!
An hour or so after I took the picture, he booted her out. Lots of sand has been dug up around the cave since then, so I'm assuming she's really trying to get herself back in. He's still having none of it, despite their privacy screen.
I might drop the temp in the tank down for a coupe of days and see if he changes his mind at all. Still good signs from her. Not from him.

Maybe. She's been VERY keen for a week at least. Keeping an eye on things. Weirdly, despite having at least x2 males in the rest of the tank and x5 caves, all the caves are empty. Very odd. It's like the males don't get what they're meant to do.

Do pleco like to choose their own mates? Perhaps a new girl might tempt him? If you have any to swap with, I have no idea really but I hope it works out.

There's at least 3 females in there now. She is the same female he raised eggs/ fry with previously, so I assumed they'd just get on again. There was up to 5 fish trying to get in the same cave one night. Not sure if it's all the other females or mix of males and females. Just been watching them and one other male has been trying caves out and being followed around by what I'm guessing is another female.Staffylover wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 20:53 pm Do pleco like to choose their own mates? Fish dad has left his cave temporarily and the original female is sat in the entrance awaiting his return.
Just leaving them to it for a bit. Hoping the weekend water change might inspire something to happen.
