The super soft water has started spawning season well and truly. Similis are definately going now, and the Weitzmani and like clockwork, every Thursday. I have to work early this week, so I'm hoping to get up and find a good load that they haven't eaten!
Because of all the action happening I've picked up a little plastic container as a hatchery and initial grow out tank. I currently have 4 Similis (I think) in there that are about 3 days old now. I've started to bring a small rack up in conversation a little more recently, I'm still being ignored but that can't last forever right?

It's 12l or so. Ok for about 6-8 weeks and then they should be big enough to go in with the parents.Andys temperate tank wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 19:35 pm That looks like an ideal little setup. Nice one Ben.
I'll pop a little heater in it soon, but my work are paying for my heating currently during working hours, so it's on for about 20 hours of the day so doesn't necessarily need one at the moment

From the 4 eggs I collected after the last spawn, I have 3 fry still alive and they are now starting to look like mini Cory's. One of them seems to be doing as well as the others in terms of growth, however it hasn't fully consumed it's yolksac so struggles with swimming upright so I'd imagine this one will pass at some point. Also, I've noticed some sort of water flea in the tank. I guess these will make good food soon. I'll try and get another photo but it's hard with their colour and size! The heater finally arrived, along with my giant turkey baster for the discus tank so the heat will now be a bit more consistent hopefully!

A quick video update of the Cory fry and their million snail friends.
You'll have to forgive my breathing in the video, my nose is a bit crooked from playing rugby for years so it doesn't really work

Not sure why the video won't directly upload but just click the link.
