Morning All,

Thought I would document my tank journey and fishless cycle.

Tank is a Leddy XL, roughly 72 ltr empty.

Plans are to cycle planted but that might change as I am still awaiting my plant delivery. If they dont arrive soonish I will start my cycle and plant later.

Scape will be rocks and a few bits of bogwood, I need to have the tank pretty full up to break up lines of sight due to stocking plans. Will be running a internal 300lph filter and air sponge filter for added filtration.

This will be a pea puffer tank. Should get a shoal of 6 with ease provided I can break up all lines of sight.

*getting my rocks delivered today :D who thought you could get so excited over a bunch of rocks in a box.

So I finally got to set up the tank last night in prep for my fishless cycle.

Basic plants Vallis, Java fern, Java Moss, Crypts etc etc.

I am fairly happy with how it has turned out so far. But I have a few questions.....

When should I start dosing with ferts and liquid carbon? Straight away or will it affect my fishless cycle?

You can start dosing straight away with fertilizers and Co2 liqiud or gas won't make any difference to the cycle. As for liquid carbon, I do have a question ...are you using an air powered sponge filter in there?

I only ask as it will be somewhat counterproductive filling the water column with O2 bubbles. :dodgy2:

Morning,

Yeah I have it for extra filtration due to planning this one as a pea puffer tank. I have the valve turned right down so its only rippling the water at the moment. What do you think?

Could I overdose the liquid carbon to counter act this or not?

I'd probably save the ferts/liquid CO2 money and wait until the cycle is complete. The plants will get food from the cycle toxins.
It shouldn't hurt to use them, but I try to save money if I can. ;)

Whats under the sand? You may not need to add ferts for a few weeks if its a plant substrate. It may release some nutrients for a couple of weeks.
