Tonight's Scores
Ancistrus 6 - Puddle 5
My score was the five that I managed to catch, the rest to jumped out the net before I could lift it up.

This didn't work, the Ancistrus fry found the food in the net alright ...Problem was, they stuck themselves to the outside of the net, not inside!
Round two, this worked to a degree ...caught more Shrimps than fry!

You can see the food tablet in the back left of the net. Problem with this was everytime a Ancistrus baby got near the net another would chase it off.
Having got one in the net, climb the steps ...oh he's gone.
Hope @Stephen is having better luck with his Cichlids.
Try again tomorrow.

Yes and no, I have now managed to catch 'Betty' the female Ancistrus. So that has stopped any breeding for time being.

I use a cereal container to catch Sarah (not @Sarah but Sarah my BN). Sink it with some food in, I general angle it so the opening is facing slightly up to prevent her rushing out, which she might do if its laid flat on its side. But once she’s in it I close the lid and take the whole thing out, pleco and all!
To the tune of “the saints go marching in”:
Oh fluffy sheep! Oh fluffy sheep! Oh fluffy sheep are wonderful, they’re white Welsh and fluffy! Oh fluffy sheep are wonderful!

Good luck with this, should keep you busy for a while! Is it not possible to trap the babies 1 at a time as they appear on the glass, or would they just scatter?

Good idea but I don't I've got the room being so heavily planted. Anyway I found the BN fry don't play the same game as the adults.Gingerlove05 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 20:13 pm I use a cereal container to catch Sarah (not @Sarah but Sarah my BN). Half the problem I have wait until the youngsters appear. When they do I can move in but...! being a short arse, by the time I'm up the steps a lot of them have scattered.Staffylover wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 20:58 pm Good luck with this, should keep you busy for a while! Be honest @Staffylover I found the slightest movement or noise on around the aquarium and back into the plants they go!
You do realize these young are from the Bristlenose you sent me.

The Results are just in...
Ancistrus 2 - Puddle 6
So all the Juveniles are now out of the aquarium ...Yay! ...not as many as I thought.
Still quite a few small fry though.

Here's two I did manage to catch. They are in a Easy-Life dosing pot which is only 4 cm's in diameter to give you all an idea of size.
Interestingly there's no where near the amount of fry I observed in the tank the other day. But I have noticed 'Fred' the Siamese Algae Eater looks somewhat fatter today ...Hmm!?

@Martinspuddle You cannot blame me for this! I only sent you one - it takes two to tango as I'm sure you are well aware What's your plan will you keep the adults?

Well I reckon the females are better at algae eating and can be seen more easily than the (lazy!) males, but perhaps yours are different, or it could always be an excuse for that piranha tank you wanted
